Charlie Brown Christmas Port Alberni 2023

Port Alberni Holiday Fun Supports Sage Haven

A Charlie Brown Christmas Radio Play: Don’t miss this 2023 Holiday play and carolling event in Port Alberni.

You may have noticed some fluffy white stuff falling from the sky this weekend and maybe experienced other signs of the approaching Holiday Season. Sage Haven has begun to feel some local cheer from participants, volunteers, and visitors. One in particular is Pastor Brenda, from Trinity Anglican+Lutheran Church. Brenda and her team have been busy putting together not one but TWO opportunities for residents of the Alberni Valley to fill themselves with some holiday cheer this weekend;

A Charlie Brown Christmas Radio Play) and a Community Carol Sing will occur at Trinity Church.

December 15, 7 pm & December 17, 3 pm, 2023.

Sage Haven Society is excited to announce the event to our supporters as a fun-filled family event that will support the ongoing work we do in our community. Brenda has taken some time to answer our questions about the event and why they have selected Sage Haven Society as one of the organizations that will benefit from donations collected this weekend. Read on to learn more from Brenda’s answers.

What inspired you to organize this event?

For years, we at Trinity have put up a Mitten Tree in support of Sage Haven, where all the scarves, toques and mitts decorating it are gathered by Christmas for distribution to those who need them. In the past, we have created opportunities through a staging of a Christmas Carol for people to donate to what was then ACAWS and did the same at our last year’s Carolling event. This year’s event is following a Trinity tradition. As to choosing A Charlie Brown Christmas, well, I have to admit I am of an age where this story has been a part of my life since it was first aired on TV in 1965. The message doesn’t grow old.

Please provide an overview of the winter carolling and play event you’re putting together. What can attendees expect?

The first half will be a community sing-a-long of familiar Christmas carols and winter songs. The second half is our radio play, which features local actors and the Trinity Choir. The audience can expect laughter, maybe a few tears, and great music.

How did you select Sage Haven Society as one of the beneficiaries of your event proceeds, and what motivates you to support their causes?

We have been supporting Sage Haven ever since I arrived in Port Alberni because the need is great and cannot be ignored.

Can you share some details about the venue, date, and time of the event?

Our event will happen in the beautiful Trinity sanctuary. There are two shows – Friday, December 15 at 7 p.m. and then Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m.

Are there any specific goals or targets you hope to achieve in terms of funds raised or community impact?

We are creating an opportunity for the generous folk of Port Alberni to share what they can with those served by Sage Haven and our Trinity Community Cupboard. Admission is by donation. We suggest $10/person and tax receipts will be given for donations of $25+. In addition, people can experience the joy of giving by decorating the Mitten Tree with scarves/toques/mitts/gloves which will be donated to Sage Haven by Christmas and/or by bringing non perishable foodstuff for the Trinity Community Cupboard.

How can individuals who are unable to attend the event still contribute to the fundraising efforts for the two nonprofits?

All donations received will be divided 50/50 in support of both causes. People are welcome to donate by sending cheques to Trinity Church, 4766 Angus St, V9Y 1S9 or by going to our website at www.trinityportalberni.ca and click on the donate button. Either way, simply indicate that the gift is for the C & B fundraiser.

What message or inspiration do you hope to convey to potential attendees and readers of this blog post?

At the heart of Christmas is a message of unconditional love, of peace, of equality. Everyone matters. May we be inspired to live this message each and everyday of the year.
