Job Posting: Finance Manager

Sage Haven Society is seeking a skilled, values-driven Finance Manager to provide financial leadership within a trauma-informed, community-based organization supporting women and children surviving intimate partner violence and gender-based violence.

This is a leadership position requiring sound judgment, professionalism, and a high degree of integrity. The Finance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring financial accountability, sustainability, and compliance, and works closely with the Executive Director, leadership team, funders, and the Board of Directors.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for the organization’s full-cycle financial operations, financial reporting, funder compliance, and internal controls. The role also supports certain financial and administrative aspects of human resources and contributes to organisational leadership and decision-making.

This position requires a professional who works collaboratively as part of a team, exercises discretion at all times, and is able to engage appropriately and sensitively in an environment where confidential and, at times, distressing information may be encountered.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Full-Cycle Accounting

  • Oversee and manage full-cycle accounting using QuickBooks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and appropriate authorisation
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and ensure balance sheet integrity
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with organisational policies and funder requirements

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports, meeting month-end close deadlines no later than the 15th of each month
  • Produce quarterly and year-end financial statements as required
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare reports to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow analysis

Funder Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare financial reports for funders, contracts, and grants, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and reporting timelines.
  • Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors and other financial stakeholders.
  • Ensure strong internal financial controls and risk-management practices are maintained.

Human Resources & Administrative Support

  • Support financial aspects of human resources, including payroll coordination, benefits administration support, and HR-related financial reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership on staffing budgets, cost analysis, and funding allocations.

Leadership, Teamwork & Professional Conduct

  • Act as a collaborative member of the organization’s leadership team
  • Work respectfully and effectively with colleagues across programs and disciplines
  • Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity when exposed to confidential or distressing information, while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Represent the organization professionally in interactions with funders, auditors,and external partners

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting
  • Demonstrated experience using QuickBooks for accounting functions (Desktop preferred)
  • Experience preparing financial reports for funders or external stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial controls, and reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and financial analysis
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Not Required

  • CPA designation is not required

Assets

  • Experience in the non-profit or community-based sector
  • Experience working with multiple funding sources or grant-funded programs
  • Experience supporting organisations serving women and children impacted by violence
  • Cultural awareness and experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary: $60,000 per year
  • Higher salary may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated expertise
