Purpose
The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARP) is responsible for building and sustaining strategic relationships with key community partners to develop a coordinated, timely response for survivors of sexual assault. The Coordinator provides community education on trauma-informed responses, advocates for survivors, recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers, and collaborates with partner organisations to establish comprehensive wraparound services for survivors.
Start Date: Immediate
Site: Located at the Port Alberni 3rd Avenue office of the agency
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with an unpaid hour for lunch.
Responsibilities
- Develops, plans, and implements community events, forums, and discussions related to sexual assault awareness and response
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers to provide survivor-centred support services
- Builds and maintains a volunteer network capable of responding to survivors within the community
- Travels to outlying and rural communities to collaborate on locally appropriate service solutions
- Develops and delivers training modules tailored to local service systems and community needs
- Gathers survivor-informed feedback to identify service gaps and inform program improvement, using trauma-informed and ethical practices
- Provides survivor-centred advocacy and facilitates connections to appropriate support services
- Engages community stakeholders—including individuals, businesses, nonprofits, Indigenous organisations, and government partners—in collaborative, solution-focused dialogue
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with service providers and volunteers that promote equity, inclusion, and nonjudgmental practice
- Provides training to community partners on recognising, responding to, and referring cases of sexual assault
- Applies a trauma-informed, survivor-centred, and equity-based approach in all interactions with survivors and community partners
Applicant must have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of violence against women and gender-based violence, including sexual assault and intimate partner violence
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive situations
- Proven experience working with vulnerable and diverse client populations across ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds, using trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches.
- Proficiency in standard office software and online systems, including provincial and federal reporting or service-delivery platforms.
Education
- Diploma in Human Services or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of three years of experience in program coordination/liaising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including:
- Ability to bring diverse community members together to work toward a common goal
- Proven track record of working in a multi-agency, multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds
Salary
- HSA union Grid 12 $29.17/hr. – $33.49/hr.
- This position requires Union Membership
- Employee may be required to use an automobile in the performance of duties.
